The Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife (ODFW) is hosting another free fishing event for youth. On Saturday, May 16th, from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Alton Baker Canoe Canal in Eugene, youngsters are invited to come and discover the joys of fishing.
ODFW staff and volunteers will be available to help teach casting, reeling, and landing a fish. Fishing equipment will be provided for those who do not possess their own, but participants are encourgaed to bring their own fishing gear as well.
According to ODFW, the event is part of its Youth Angling Enhancement Program, designed to introduce young people to the fun of fishing. ODFW is stocking the canal with approximately 1,300 legal-sized fish for the event. Anglers age 13 and under are not required to have a license, while those 14-17 must possess a Juvenile Angling License. All other anglers must have an adult fishing license.
For information about the event at Alton Baker Canoe Canal, call the ODFW Springfield office at 541.726.3515.
