Hunters: Keep Your Knife Sharp
Coast recently published a new article on their web site dealing with hunting knives, specifically, how to sharpen them. With hunting season just getting underway, the article is extremely timely.

The article highlights the importance of a sharp hunting knife by equating it with arrows for a bow or ammunition for a rifle. Without one, the other is rendered useless.
The author begins with a discussion on sharpening stones, making some recommendations regarding the hardness and make of stones. He then transitions into the benefits of using a sharpening guide in tandem with the stone.
Before you can begin sharpening your knife, however, you must first see if the blade even needs to be sharpened. The article suggests a number of tests for determining how dull your blade has become.
In the following paragraphs, the author discusses methods of sharpening and basic strokes as well as offers a number of suggestions for the novice who may feel uncomfortable with advanced techniques. Additionally, the author provides advice on where to seek professional guidance if you’d prefer an experienced eye.
In his concluding paragraph, the author not only again emphasizes the importance of a sharp hunting knife, but the importance of one’s ability to keep it sharp as well.
