IWA & Outdoor Classic 2008 Show

The IWA & Outdoor Classic 2008 show is taking place this week from March 14 – 17, 2008 in Nuremberg, Germany.  This is the 35th year the International Trade Show for hunting and sporting equipment and accessories has been held.  Companies from all over the world gather to showcase their current and future product offerings related to hunting, shooting, clothing, knives, security and law enforcement. There are over 160 companies exhibiting at the event from eleven different countries. 

During the fair, all styles and models of knives are reviewed and judged by experts of the craft.  All are vying for the IWA International Knife Awards distributed during the show.  Brands like Columbia River Knife & Tool, PUMA and Spyderco, USA are all putting up new designs for judging.

Hunting Knives and Child Safety

If you are a person who enjoys the great outdoors and owns hunting knives or who intends to purchase this type of gear in the future, listen up.  In addition to paying attention to the kind of hunting knives you own or consider purchasing, you also need to understand what you need to do to manage that knife safely.  This particularly is the case when it comes to the issue of child safety and ensuring your knife does not cause them harm.

It is important that you keep hunting knives well out of the reach of your children.  In this regard, there are products in which you can secure hunting knives to ensure that they do not end up in the curious hands of children. Keep a hunting knife up high, in a hunting gear box or bag. Keep the knife in a safety sheath so that the knife blade will never accidentally fall open.  If you can, consider owning a liner lock folding knife. These knives are made for safety with a locking mechanism to ensure the knife stays closed when it is supposed to and opens only when needed.

Hunting Knives: What to Look for in a Quality Product

If you are in the market for hunting knives, there are some factors that you need to bear well in mind to ensure that you purchase a quality product.  Through this review, you are provided with some of these factors that you will want to keep in mind when it comes to the purchase of hunting knives.

Thickness
Consider the thickness of the blade before purchasing your next hunting knife. Generally speaking, those products with a thicker blade will tend to more durable and will last longer than a product that might have a less substantial blade. Those using a knife for hunting purposes will find that a thicker blade is better suited for cutting through hides and thicker cuts of flesh than thinner knifes used for filleting fish.
