I was perusing some online camping blogs today when one led me to an interesting pair of articles by Bill Sassani. He wrote two articles for Valentine’s Day, one highlighting outdoor gear gifts for men and one doing the same for women. Now, call me a traditionalist, but I didn’t exactly know camping and hiking gear was on the approved list of gifts to buy for Valentine’s Day. Apparently, they are.
Now, I’ll concede that there’s a good argument for men, but I don’t know if his gear gift-giving opinion on women will stand up. Listen to one of his opening lines:

If you’ve got friends or family who are outdoorsy — or even ones who aren’t – Coast has the perfect gifts to stuff into their stockings this Christmas.
Well, the busiest shopping day of the year is upon us. I was astonished to learn that stores were opening up as early 1 and 2 o’clock in the morning. I’ve heard of hunters getting up before the break of dawn, but it looks like bargain hunting is in a league of its own. If you’re like me, however, you’ll be missing all the early bird specials and deals Black Friday has to offer. In fact, you probably won’t see the inside of any stores today at all.
Some of you just read that headline and thought: What?! Camping in the fall? Are you kidding me? Well, you’re probably from the Pacific Northwest, like me. And it’s true: “camping” and “the fall” are not two terms often associated with one another here in the rain capitol of the United States.
