“Female Friendly” LED Lighting Products…Seriously?

Thursday, February 25th, 2010

Mini Tac TorchAn LED lighting manufacturer is preparing to “unveil female friendly lighting products” at an upcoming home and housewares show in March, according to a recent press release. Female friendly? Gimme a break. If that doesn’t shout, “Women are inferior!”, I don’t know what does.

Apparently, the company’s research shows females are expressing a growing interest in their LED lighting products, so they decided to develop a new line of products that cater to women. New Article: Innovations in LED Lighting

Thursday, January 28th, 2010

As I read through the article, I was struck by the extremely long incubation period for LEDs. The technology sat virtually disregarded for close to 50 years before it was given due attention. After that, it still took another 50 years to develop the technology to be used in the way we see it today, when LEDs practically exploded onto the scene not even ten years ago.

The ball dropping has been a tradition for more than a century, seeing its first descent in 1907. Since then, the ball has seen a number of faces, its most recent unveiled just last year. And as the ball comes to a landing, its lights are diminished and four numbers light up revealing the numerical designation for the new year — 2010.
