Sturgeon Season Opens New Year’s Day

The Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife (WDFW) announced that fishing season for Columbia River white sturgeon will open New Year’s Day.  WDFW says that rules similar to those in 2008 will apply but with tighter catch limits below Bonneville Dam.

Fishery managers from Washington and Oregon said that in order to compensate for high harvest levels in 2008, catch limits will be 2,000 fish less in the lower Columbia River and adjoining tributaries in 2009. According to WDFW, the new catch limits were adopted following a decision by the fish and wildlife commissions of both states to extend the management agreement for 2006-08 through 2009.

Washington: Additional Clam Digs Scheduled

Additional winter razor-clams digs have been approved by the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife (WDFW), the first of which that will include a dig beginning Thursday, Dec. 11. Digs are also scheduled for January and February.

According to WDFW, four evening digs will take place at Copalis and Mocrocks Dec. 11-14; Long Beach and Twin Harbors will host three evening digs Dec. 12-14. Digging is restricted to the hours between noon and midnight. For best results, WDFW recommends that people start digging at least one hour before low tide.

Washington: Salmon Fishing Seasons

The Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife (WDFW) announced that it will hold an additional public workshop on December 9 in order to discuss how annual seasons are set for recreational salmon fisheries.

“We’re going to continue our discussion from the earlier meeting and talk about several other issues, including potential 2009 salmon fisheries and plans for expanding selective fisheries,” said Pat Pattillo, salmon policy coordinator for the WDFW.

WDFW Puts Poachers in Prison

Tuesday, October 21st, 2008

The last member of a poaching gang known as “Kill ‘Em All Boyz” has finally been convicted and sentenced, bringing an extensive undercover investigation by the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife to a close.
